Long-time advocate for women in technology and encouraging girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Melike holds a Science degree from the University of Alberta and a Masters degree from York University. With over 22 years of experience in the IT industry, Melike knows what it takes to succeed in a hyper-competitive world and the critical importance of solid public education.
As the parent of children currently in the DDSB system, Melike knows how meaningful it is to have strong support and advocacy on the Board representing the best interests of all our children – particularly those with special learning needs. No child should ever be left to fall behind.
A Whitby resident for 20 years, Melike is an active community volunteer and has volunteered with several charitable & non-profit community organizations. Recently she was CareMongers co-captain for Brooklin, and currently serves as Board Secretary for Epilepsy Durham Region.

School trustees are an important link between school boards and the public. Trustees are elected every 4 years during municipal elections. Their role is to be available to taxpayers, parents and other community members to address any concerns they have with the public school system.
